Perpetual Adoption Program

The restoration process of the 66 horses and two chariots that grace the antique Paragon Carousel is ongoing. Ensuring that this treasure will continue to be professionally restored and authentically reflect the original design and craftsmanship of the carousel’s original artists, many of our supporters have chosen individual horses to “adopt” permanently. To cover the costs associated with a complete restoration and ongoing restorative maintenance, the contribution level is $10,000 for this program. Since 1996, eleven horses have been given “Perpetual Adoption” status and are named in gratitude to their benefactors. Each horse is identified with a brass plaque and carries the name of the horse on its leather rein.

Seasonal Adoption Program

To further ensure that our restorations efforts continue, the Friends of the Paragon Carousel launched a new program in 2013 that allows individuals, families and businesses the opportunity to “adopt” a carousel horse for a single season. This program celebrates the 85th birthday of the Paragon Carousel and will continue each year as we count down to our 90th birthday in 2018.

For a contribution of $250, a Paragon Carousel horse may be “adopted” and named by the donor. This is a wonderful way to aid the restoration fund of the Paragon Carousel in addition to creating a thoughtful memorial, celebrate a family member, or acknowledge a business as a donor and supporter of our beloved and historic carousel. Horses are available on a “first-come” basis. The names of donors will be on display inside the carousel, listed on the organization’s web site and included in promotional materials. Other benefits to donors include a certificate and photo of the adopted horse, full description and seasonal name, along with discounts and special offers on events held throughout the year at the carousel.

By offering a more economical way to support the restoration efforts, new donors have an option to choose a horse in various states of condition—from fully restored to those in need of a complete restoration.

You can make an appointment to view the available horses by calling 781-925-0472 or email info@paragoncarousel.com. Individual photos and details of each carousel horse can be found on our Adopt a Horse page, and you can download an Adopt a Horse Order Form here.

Another stunning restoration of one of the Paragon Carousel's antique horses just completed by our Restoration Artist James Hardison. James is now working on another horse seen here behind him in his restoration studio. He is now in the 'discovery' stage of the restoration process where he determines the original colors used by the artisans who carved and painted this pony in 1928. Thanks to all of our supporters for making the ongoing restoration efforts on our antique treasure possible!

Adopt a Carousel Horse Kickoff Reception on December 15, 2012

Stacey Urdang (left) and Debbie Fox with their newly-adopted Carousel horse “Patriot” at the Paragon Carousel. These Hull friends are first to “adopt” a hand-carved carousel horse for the 2013 season. They chose the Lead Horse to sponsor with their lead gift of this new program. The shield on the horse reads “PTC” for its maker, the Philadelphia Toboggan Company, where the carousel was built in 1928.The Friends of the Paragon Carousel have launched a new fund raising program to support their ongoing restoration efforts of the antique merry-go-round: Adopt a Carousel Horse for the Season.

To officially kick-off the program, the public is invited to a reception at the organization’s new Paragon Park Museum located inside the historic Clock Tower building next to the carousel, on Saturday, December 15, from 12 noon – 3 pm.

During the reception guests will have the opportunity to view photos and details of the dozens of antique jumpers that are available for “adoption” for the 2013 season—the carousel’s 85th year of operation. Guests will also be invited inside the carousel for a closer viewing of the horses.

The first horse to be adopted is the carousel’s Lead Horse. Hull residents and friends Debbie Fox and Stacy Urdang adopted this horse together, which they have named Patriot. Since then, several more horses have been adopted with 50 horses now waiting for adoptive sponsors.

For a donation of $250, a carousel horse can be adopted for the season by an individual, family or business. According to new board president Marie Schleiff, “This is a wonderful way to aid the restoration fund of the Paragon Carousel in addition to creating a thoughtful memorial, celebrating a family member, or acknowledging your business as a donor and supporter of our beloved and historic carousel.” Horses will be available on a “first-come” basis. The names of donors will be on display inside the carousel, listed on the organization’s web site and included in promotional materials. Other benefits to donors include a certificate with a photo of the adopted horse, full description and seasonal name, along with discounts and special offers on events held throughout the year at the carousel.

According to Schleiff, 10 of the 66 hand-carved horses have been fully restored via permanent “adoption” by donors over the years, at a cost of $10,000 each. By offering a more economical way to support the restoration efforts, new donors have an option to choose a horse in various states of condition—from fully restored to those in need of a complete restoration.

The “adoption” season will run throughout 2013. To make an appointment to see the available horses or for more information, please call 781-925-0472 or email info@paragoncarousel.com. Individual photos and details of each carousel horse will be included on our site later in the month.

The amazing Painting Horse, Jesse, will visit the Paragon Carousel on Wednesday, August 1 at 6pm. Jesse has become somewhat of a local talent, and he is rapidly gaining artistic notoriety in Massachusetts.

Jesse is a four-legged artist – a horse – that has recently been put on film for an imminent segment on “Chronicle,” Boston’s Channel 5 news magazine show.

This amiable horse painter will present his latest artistic endeavors of new paintings at the Carousel. His art is attractive and framable. The sales of his paintings helps support the rescue efforts of local horses through Amazing Grace Equine, an organization that re-homes horses who might otherwise face a bleak future. Also joining Jesse at the Carousel is Dusty, a horse that was recently rescued.

Amusement park and its people come to life again (The Boston Globe)
